It looks like Will Smith’s 2007 box office hit “I Am Legend,” will be getting a sequel, and Michael B. Jordan will be joining him for the film as well.
According to Deadline, both Will and MBJ are starring and producing the sequel through their individual production companies. Akiva Goldsman, who adapted the1954 novel into the 2007 film will also return for the second film, as the writer, and a producer. At the moment, the synopsis for the film has not been revealed. And there is no official director attached to the film just yet.
For those who are not familiar with the film, it stars Will Smith who fights to survive a post-apocalypse in New York City, and he’s faced with being one of the only few people in the world that is left, who has not been affected by a virus that developed from a medication that was meant to cure cancer. As a US Army virologist, he tries to figure the cure out himself, while fighting off zombies daily while trying to survive.
At the moment, there are no further details on when production will begin or an estimated release date for the sequel.
Will Smith is currently sweeping award season after his starring role in the 2021 film “King Richard.” The film is based on Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams. Last weekend, Will won an NAACP Image Award and a SAG Award, for his role as Richard Williams.
Michael B. Jordan has also been dominating the screen as well. He recently starred in the Denzel Washington-directed film, “A Journal For Jordan,” alongside Chanté Adams.
Michael’s Outlier Society production company is also working on the upcoming live-action “Static Shock,” film, as well as “Creed III,” where he will reprise his role as Adonis Creed, and will also direct.
