For Tati Gabrielle, self-love has been a journey. “When I was young, I was very different than the rest of my family—just in my personality and the way I looked at life. I thought I was an alien when I was a kid,” she says in her Beauty Secrets video for Vogue. Now, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star realizes that only she can make herself feel seen and understood. Growing up as a biracial kid meant learning to embrace her mixed heritage and unique features, from her skin to her hair. “I’ve kind of I guess become my own skin-care influence,” she laughs.
That said, embracing your individuality isn’t always a simple feat. “In my 20s my skin really changed and became super sensitive; like, I never had acne when I was young and then all of a sudden it all came at once,” Gabrielle says. For her, that also meant dry spots and bouts of eczema. The 26-year-old has since scaled back her skin-care routine to balance her skin. Following cleanser and a Dr. Dennis Gross LED mask, she wipes the brand’s two-step Extra Strength Daily Peel across spots of hyperpigmentation and smile lines. Otherwise, her regimen leans heavily into radiance, sun protection, and evening her complexion.
A self-proclaimed tomboy in her youth, Gabrielle considers makeup “a form of artistic expression—not as [something] to cover things up” so she doesn’t always conceal imperfections. While it was initially a struggle to find foundations and concealers that didn’t leave an ashy finish, formulas by Too Faced and Fenty Beauty do just the job.
Some of Gabrielle’s makeup tricks were learned on set, such as: spritzing Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray means less touchups, even while wearing masks. Gabrielle cleans up her brows with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze, filling in any sparse areas with Glossier’s Brow Flick. An array of geometrically-placed dots not only bring out her eye shape, but allow her to playfully experiment. “From your makeup to your hair to your clothes, everything gives a different vibe and feeling,” she says. “I like to just be out of the box with everything that I do because I find that that is what sparks inspiration and allows one’s individuality to come out.”
