Susanna Reid makes dig at Adele’s high ticket prices for cancelled Vegas shows

Susanna Reid made a dig at Adele‘s high ticket prices for her cancelled Las Vegas shows on Wednesday’s episode of GMB.

The presenter, 51, made a quip that fans could now ‘watch her on ITV for free’ after she confirmed she will come to the UK to perform at next week’s Brit Awards.

Thousands of fans have been left devastated after the 33-year-old Someone Like You hitmaker’s residency in Sin City was cancelled at the 11th hour – with many having already travelled there before she said it wouldn’t go ahead.

Awkward: Susanna Reid made a subtle dig at Adele’s high ticket prices for her cancelled Vegas shows on Wednesday’s episode of GMB

Fans paid between $85 and $12,000 for a ticket and Adele was reportedly set to make a record-breaking $685,000 (£500,000) per gig before merchandising.

The cancelled residency will reportedly cost Caesars Palace $150 million if she never returns.

Susanna made the dig as she discussed the hitmaker’s upcoming performance at the awards show with co-host Adil Ray and showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold.

Richard told Susanna and Adil: ‘I think the Brits for her, road to redemption is probably quite strong, but if there are any disgruntled fans who crossed the pond to try and see her at Las Vegas and then the residency was cancelled…’

‘They can watch her on ITV!’ Susanna said sarcastically as Adil commented: ‘Ohhhhhh that’s great.’

‘Marvellous news!’ Susanna then quipped further.

Richard, 51, continued: ‘It’s her home ground because in 2011 she brought the house down of course and it was a life changing performance for her back then.’

Adil then asked: ‘Those people who had bought tickets, are they getting refunds? What’s happening with that?’

Richard replied: ‘Vegas ones, apparently yes. But of course the real cost was getting the hotels and if you had made the journey.

‘But this will be great for her,’ he added of her upcoming appearance, her first BRITs performance in five years.

To which Susanna quipped: ‘It’s free to watch as well!’

Adele announced in a statement on Tuesday night that she would be at the Brit Awards.

She wrote on social media: ‘Hiya, so I’m really happy to say that I am performing at the Brits next week!!

‘Anddddd I’ll also be popping in to see Graham for a chat on the couch while I’m in town too! I’m looking forward to it! Oh, and Rich sends his love’ (sic).

The reference to her beau Rich Paul at the end came after reports that she had cancelled the shows due to issues in their relationship.

Adele accompanied the caption with a beaming snap in a plunging tiger print dress- a far cry from her last post on January 20, where she tearfully told fans she could not go ahead with her Las Vegas residency less than a day before her scheduled debut show at Caesars Palace.

Her residency was initially supposed to open last month, with performances scheduled to run through April.

A visibly emotional Adele tearfully told fans, many of whom were already in Sin City at the time, several different reasons behind her pushing back the residency.

‘My show ain’t ready,’ she said

‘We’ve tried absolutely everything that we can to put it together in time, and for it to be good enough for you. But we’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID.’

Now industry insiders believe Adele with never carry out her residency at Caesars Palace after set, including her flying platform, was removed last week.

Vegas-based journalist, Scott Roeben Tweeted: ‘Industry source believes Adele’s residency is done at Caesars Palace, as all preparations for the production have stopped, the sets have been loaded out and there’s no activity related to addressing concerns that presumably led to the cancellation.

‘The sound system Adele and her team insisted upon is being taken out, the original equipment is being re-installed. Source believes Adele may be picked up by Park MGM.’

MailOnline has contacted Adele’s representatives for further comment.

Sources told the Sun the shows were destined for trouble due to behind-the-scenes clashes between Adele and acclaimed set designer Esmeralda Devlin – with whom she previously worked on her 2016 world tour.

One source claimed: ‘In spite of the set costing millions to put together, Adele was unhappy with the result, and she made her feelings very clear to Es.

‘She was already nervous and the falling-out sent her spiralling into a panic because she was desperate that everything should be perfect.’

A second source said the dispute came after the production had already been thrown into chaos by ‘endless changes’ to the running order.

And Adele’s cancellation prompted fears she would not go ahead with her performance at the BRITs over concerns of backlash for calling off her residency.
