New York Fashion Week 2022: Fall/Winter 2022 Shows Review

Fact: the days of “runway, rinse, repeat” fashion shows are no more. Maybe it’s a side effect of the pandemic, which regrettably altered its fifth Fashion Month this season. Or, perhaps it’s the Balenciaga effect. Last season, Demna refashioned the show’s attendees into Spring/Summer 2022 campaign stars. Either way, designers are making sport of uprooting the old-school conventions of the fashion calendar in favor of something decidedly freer. Our proof: New York Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter 2022 season.

For weeks prior, editors, influencers, and buyers chattered over the radio silence that replaced what’s usually a tidal wave of party invites and seating confirmations. The last-minute nature of New York Fashion Week only added to the suspense, which became a greater theme for the whole of presentations and shows. Some choices were small, such as a Christian Cowan model plunking down and yanking her shoes off mid-catwalk. Others were sweeping, like Hervé Léger‘s impromptu photoshoot, where models perambulated between spectators to make it to the step-and-repeat for their cover-girl moment.
