Have you ever asked yourself “Am I doing too much to my skin, or am I not doing enough?” Sometimes a time-consuming, multi-step skin care routine can lead to adverse skin reactions. If that’s the case, it may be time to try a minimalist approach to skin care, and that’s where Pyunkang Yul comes in.The K-Beauty brand has a “less is more” approach to skin care, developing formulas with only necessary and natural ingredients to deliver better long-term effects to skin. All its products are cruelty-free and made of clean and safe ingredients, making the formulas suitable for all skin types.

This time, I had the opportunity to reset my skin with the help of Pyunkang Yul’s Low pH Cleansing Foam, Calming Toner Pad, Calming Moisture Serum and Calming Moisture Barrier Cream. Scroll on to find out if the results were worth it after two consecutive weeks of dedicated use.

What it is: Enriched with cica extracts along with other plant-based ingredients, this cleansing foam soothes skin, while AHA provides gentle exfoliation. Ideal for hypersensitive skin, the pH-balancing formula delivers a calming and hydrating cleanse to clear away dirt and grime on your face without stripping it of moisture.

My take: I used the Pyunkang Yul Low pH Cleansing Foam at the first step of my skin care routine. Compared to my previous experiences with foam cleansers, I had to use a bit more (at least three pumps) of Pyunkang Yul’s cleanser in order to create a sufficient amount of foam to cleanse and hydrate my skin. However, I didn’t have to lather up the formula so it saved me a lot of time! As I was massaging the foam in circular motions, I noticed a slight plasticky scent that I didn’t like, but other than that, it lived up to its promises! This cleanser provided a calming cleanse without stripping my skin of its natural oils or leaving my face taut. I was surprised that I didn’t feel any irritation or tingling effect despite the cleanser containing the acid ingredient AHA.

What it is: A gentle and soothing toner pad infused with AHA and BHA to gently exfoliate away dead skin cells, and white willow extract to control excess sebum production. The pads are drenched in moisture-replenishing ingredients like bamboo extract, panthenol and five types of hyaluronic acid, ensuring that skin stays hydrated throughout the day.

My take: Pyunkang Yul’s Calming Toner Pad is basically a toner and exfoliator in one, a product ideal for those who want to consolidate skin care steps! These toner pads are the largest I’ve tried so far. I was already shook that one container came with 70 toner pads, and I was further wow-ed by the size the moment I took one piece out. A single toner pad is almost half the size of my face! I folded the sheet of toner pad in half and swiped it across my skin. I didn’t want to waste the essence, so I swiped the pad onto other dry areas, like my neck and elbows. Despite containing active ingredients like willow bark extract and AHA, this product was refreshing on skin. During my two-week trial, the toner pads helped my skin rebalance its oil production, minimizing greasiness throughout the day for a dewy skin finish. Some would advise against exfoliating skin more than twice or three times a week, but these toner pads are gentle enough for everyday use. If you have a low skin tolerance for acids and want to try a gentle exfoliator, Pyunkang Yul’s Calming Toner Pad is for you!

What it is: A serum potent in calming ingredients like cica, tea tree and flower extracts to soothe skin and prevent future breakouts. The formula also contains ceramide, hyaluronic acid and peptides to leave skin firmer and stronger for a youthful-looking appearance. For better results, apply the serum onto cleansed and toned skin before applying Pyunkang Yul’sCalming Moisture Barrier Cream.

My take: After using the toner pad, I followed up with Pyunkang Yul’s Calming Moisture Serum. This lightweight moisture serum essentially does what its name suggests.  The formula helped my skin retain moisture, making it ideal for my daytime regimen. Additionally, the serum has a nice blend of some of my favorite skin care ingredients such as peptides and ceramides for skin-firming benefits!

A dollop of this refreshing serum was enough to deliver sufficient moisture to my parched skin! It’s so refreshing that every time I dabbed the serum onto my face, it felt like I was waking up my tired skin. I also noticed that it prepped my skin well before putting on makeup. The Calming Moisture Serum’s long-lasting hydrating effects gave my skin a dewy, glass-skin finish.

What it is: This moisturizing cream is formulated with soothing cica, tea tree and honeysuckle flower extracts to calm skin, as well as ceramide to strengthen the skin barrier. Use daily to achieve smooth and supple skin.

My take: I finished off my skin care routine with Pyunkang Yul’s Moisture Repair Balm, which comes in a creamy gel-waxy texture with a barely-there scent. It blended out smoothly during application and dried to a soft, matte finish. Although the Moisture Barrier Cream has a slightly thicker consistency than other creams, it didn’t clog my pores or cause breakouts. This barrier cream is the one to reach for now to lock in all the moisture so your skin stays moisturized throughout the day during the wintry months. The Calming Moisture Barrier Cream is a failsafe option for those who are on the hunt for a thick yet gentle moisturizer! The cream also features anti-inflammatory ingredient honeysuckle flower extract, making it beneficial for those with eczema or rosacea.

Final thoughts

I’m grateful that I got to experience another minimal skin care routine before the end of the year with these gentle skin care products. It’s also nice to know that Pyunkang Yul is a brand that integrates traditional Korean herbal hanbang ingredients in products to treat various skin concerns. The Calming Moisture Toner Pads and Serum are definitely standouts for me as I see myself continuing to reach for both products day and night thanks to the versatile formulations! I recommend products from the Calming and Moisture Line to anyone seeking reliable and fail-proof skin care products that can be easily integrated into their daily skin care routine.
