John David Duggar and wife Abbie break their silence after ‘double engine failure’ forced him to crash-land a plane in October: ‘We are so thankful for God’s protection’

John David Duggar and his wife Abbie are finally talking about a plane crash that happened in October that they reportedly blamed on a ‘double engine failure.’

The son of Jim Bob Duggar, 32, and his better half, 29, released a statement regarding the traumatic ordeal to Celebuzz on Friday.

‘An emergency landing or any kind of plane crash is a scary thing, but it’s exactly what pilots are trained for,’ the couple began.

‘We are so thankful for God’s protection, as we all walked away without injuries when this happened last October,’ they continued. ‘We so appreciate the love and care so many have expressed toward us!’

People reported that the 32-year-old former reality TV star blamed a ‘double engine failure’ for the crash, which occurred on October 29 at around 7 p.m. 

While no one was injured, there was ‘substantial’ damage to the plane and John David called 911.   

The crash was confirmed by The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department and the 911 dispatched confirmed that John David was flying and was also the one to place the call.

He said that due to the double engine failure, he had to land his Piper PA-30 plane in a field in Waverly, Tennessee.

However, a spokesperson for the local sheriff’s department told The Sun that John David actually just ran out of gas.

‘A family from Arkansas ran out of fuel and landed in a field,’ they said. 

The Sun also reported that the six-seat plane was only in the air for five minutes when it came down.

People also reported that the plane was registered to Medic Choppers, LLC. and belonged to Medic Corps, a non-profit organization that deploys ‘teams of cross-trained rescuers to both foreign and domestic mass-casualty situations.

The organization is not affiliated with the Medic Corps.

John David is Medic Corps’ Director of Business, while Nathan Bates of the TV show Bringing Up Bates is its Director of Operations. 

The crash came six months to the day after John’s older brother Josh was arrested. Josh was found guilty on two child pornography counts last month. 

He faced up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count if convicted.
