Harris Reed Brings “Celestial” Beauty to the Runway

The beauty at Harris Reed’s spring 2023 show drew inspiration from traditional debutante balls, reimagined for the designer’s world, where fluidity takes precedence.

It was only right that Reed’s exaggerated silhouettes, upturned ball gowns, and theatrical orbs should be complemented with “exaggerated color, glass-like textures, and iridescent light-play”, which Charlotte Tilbury makeup artist Sofia Tilbury explains was key to making the “’90s glamour with an opulent, celestial spin” come to life.

“We created 12 unique characters [with] each model, to help bring the extraordinary demi-couture pieces to life,” Tilbury says. “At the heart of each makeup look was fresh, dewy, ethereal skin.”

“We prepped with Charlotte’s Magic Skincare, then used Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation all over the face to smooth and even the complexion, with the new Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer only where needed to blur, illuminate and lift the look of the skin even further. We also used the new Airbrush Brightening Flawless Finish Powder sparingly over the under-eye area and T-Zone, to brighten, blur and smooth with a spotlight effect, then blended the new Pillow Talk Beautifying Face Palette over the cheekbones and temples, to sculpt and add glow.”

Tilbury used flashes of color—the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Velvet Underground and Hot Lips Lipstick in Tell Laura for the bolder looks – adding rhinestones and pops of gold, green and blue on the eyes. “For one of the looks, I layered the Pillow Talk Beautifying Pillow Talk Face Palette with the Beauty Light Wand in Pinkgasm, and blended all over the eyes and cheekbones for a dramatic, blown-out, euphoric blush effect,” Tilbury says. “Finally, we followed with the Beauty Light Wands in Spotlight or Goldgasm over the high points of the face, for an otherworldly glow that played with the light beautifully as the models moved.”
