Eva Longoria, 47, supports friend Serena Williams, 40, after the tennis star addresses double standards in wake of retirement news
The 47-year-old spoke to the media outlet during Saturday’s Vote Like a Madre event in Miami and discussed the double standards that women face regarding parenthood.
The 40-year-old professional tennis player recently spoke to Vogue and revealed that she would be stepping away from competition in favor of growing her family.

During the interview, Williams expressed that she felt that it was unfair that she had to explain her decision to leave the sports world to the public.
‘If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family,’ she said.
Longoria agreed with the actress and remarked that gender-based differences often affected women more than men.
The actress stated: ‘She’s absolutely right. If this were a different time, if the genders were switched, she wouldn’t have to take years off to breastfeed.’

The performer, who has a son named Santiago, aged four, also said that Williams faced many of the challenges that affected other parents.
‘She also mentions that she’s no different than any other mother, [playing tennis professionally] just happens to be her career,’ she said.
Longoria went on to offer her views about the difficulties of motherhood.
‘The mom who is a teacher also has to understand, “How do I balance work and family?” The woman who is a dentist has to say, “How do I balance my career and family?” You know, we all bear that cross,’ she said.

The Desperate Housewives star then remarked that all mothers served a vital role in the lives of their loved ones.
She stated that mothers ‘bear the weight of so much responsibility – not just for ourselves, for our children.’
Longoria shares her son with her husband, Jose Baston, whom she married in 2016.
The actress was previously married to both Tyler Christopher and Tony Parker.
She later began seeing Baston, to whom she became engaged in 2015.
The now-parents tied the knot the following year and welcomed Santiago into their lives in 2018.
The performer’s son has since shown up in several snaps that have been shared to her Instagram account.
