Emmy Awards 2021: Red carpet stars return for night of glamor

Television’s A-list returned to the red carpet in spectacular fashion at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, trading up from the pajamas and hoodies worn at last year’s subdued virtual event.

The who’s who of the small screen reveled in the opportunity to make a glamorous comeback as they descended upon LA Live in downtown Los Angeles to kick off the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmys ceremony.

The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy dazzled in a showstopping halter Dior Haute Couture gown with a bold coat, while Catherine Zeta-Jones in Cristina Ottaviano, Kate Winslet in Armani Prive, Kerry Washington in Etro and Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang also turned heads.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were a still a ‘limited’ number of guests (about 500) and nominees on the red carpet as well as event staff.

All attendees had to show proof of vaccination and a negative test result.

Catherine Zeta-Jones arrived with her husband Michael Douglas; the Welsh-born actress wowed in a deep red custom Cristina Ottaviano gown with Christian Louboutin heels in the same tone.

The 51-year-old gorgeous star showcased her toned legs in the thigh-slit strapless number, adding a statement diamond necklace. 

Kate Winslet, 45, cut a chic figure in a custom Armani Prive frock that had a v-neckline with sheer sleeves; The British actress carried a black clutch in one hand for a sleek red carpet look.

Kate wore a Fred Leighton Line bracelet with onyx circa 1920s, set in platinum, with a Mid-20th century ring with diamonds also set in Platinum, adding an Art Deco line bracelet with onyx and diamonds by Cartier circa 1928, set in platinum.

Kerry Washington sizzled in a draped silver lilac custom Etro gown; the silk frock had a corset belt to highlight her slim waist.

The former Scandal actress, 44, paired the sultry look with drop earrings, a diamond bangle, rings and red nails and matching lipstick.

Kaley stood out in the bright custom Vera Wang frock, which was made out of neon yellow taffeta and accented with silk and taffeta flowers on the straps.

Kaley, who announced her split from husband Karl Cook earlier this month, wore De Beers Jewelers’ Drops of Light earrings, which is 4.21 carats and set in platinum.

The TV star, 35, also wore the Allegria large eternity band with two carats of diamonds, set in platinum, from De Beers.

The Crown cast showed their support for their hit series on the night of the Emmy Awards on both sides of the pond.

Gillian Anderson, Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin, and Emerald Fennell wowed at an Emmy Celebration at the Soho House in London on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Josh O’Connor represented the cast as he walked the Emmy awards red carpet.

Overall, the cast put on a showstopping display as they supported their hit Netflix show ahead of the epic event.

Emma, who plays Princess Diana, looked incredible in a sleeveless yellow dress with fingerless gloves and a matching head cap.

Speaking about returning to the red carpet, Josh, who also attended the Met Gala last week, replied: ‘It’s really special. It’s so nice to be with other people in our industry. Nice to be reunited with everyone.’
