CREATE NEXT feat. BABES ON WAVES | Converse

Spread the love

We’ve partnered with the girls from @babesonwavesclub for the launch of the new Converse ‘Crafted With Love’ pack in exploration of how they ‘Create Next’ for their community😍✨👟. Babes on Waves is the ultimate creative network for Black, Brown & underrepresented babes who want to swap fire resources and network in a non-icky way.

We caught up with the collective to find out how their craft and style enables them to create next.

Jasmine Douglas (@translanticbabe)  is the Founder and Community Gardener of BOW. With her projects she aims to break down the stiff doors the corporate world often puts up, join forces for collaborators to be granted deserving opportunities and give them the confidence and the tools to create in return. Jasmine styles up the #Converse ‘All Star Hi’ trainers in Black Vintage White. How does Babes on Waves help their community to #CreateNext?

Everything we do is about the power of community and being one another’s hype women! There can be a lot of gatekeeping, competitiveness, & an ‘insiders-only’ mindset in this space, often told there can only be one woman or one Black woman at a time representing entire industries. This accessibility can be really disheartening for people trying to break in. Babes on Waves is about breaking down those doors. Our members get to learn how to develop their creative practice & grow their businesses through educational resources curated by experts in our wider network, women who are further along the journey & sharing their knowledge as insiders.

Missy Yusuf  is the founder and designer of Misemi – a brand that celebrates, culture, self-care and being unapologetically yourself 💘.  She aims to make clothing that creates conversations and allows people to be carefree and express themselves through what they wear.

Missy wears her heart on her Chucks with the #Converse ‘All Star Hi’ trainers in Cherry Blossom White 💖. Shop here.

How has being a part of the Babes on Waves community helped you Create Next?

Being part of the BOW community has made me feel super supported and less lonely as a solo business owner. Having such a diverse network of people in one space, I feel like there’s no question/ query that I have that goes unanswered. This is great when trying to do all the not so fun business bits that pop up when trying to scale a business. Everyone’s so talented and I think that keeps me inspired in seeing people’s journeys and wins and keeps me motivated to create and keep pushing.

Nicole Chui (@thatsewnnicole) is an embroidery artist who’s work is known to be messy, brash and disruptive. She regularly collaborates with brands, host workshops, and create custom pieces for clients for projects across fashion, culture, sport, and music. Check out her work at London based gallery, Bleur.

Being able to network with women who are in so many different industries on a similar journey has boosted my confidence in taking important steps I wouldn’t have on my own to grow my business.⠀⠀⠀

Adwoa  (@minis_w0rld) is founder of Minis World – a sustainable, vintage Depop shop. She is a mentor and small business coach, what she likes to call ‘multihyphenate’, sighting she always she was destined for the entrepreneurial route.

How has being a part of the Babes on Waves community helped you Create Next?

BOW was literally the catalyst for when I pivoted and decided to bring my business to the next level. I was in an isolated bubble of self-doubt and imposter syndrome. BOW helped me create confidence, open doors to expand both Mini’s World as a brand, my photography skills and simply be in a safe space where I can ask all the crazy questions, find support and find knowledge.
