As a registered dietitian, I feel personally that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But as a busy working mom, I also know that there are days when a completely from-scratch dish made with fresh groceries is not, well, on the menu. That’s where my freezer comes in.

There was a time when frozen breakfast item options were not as plentiful, but today there are plenty of nutritious, convenient, and, most importantly, delicious options. And I find myself buying a lot of them on repeat, including a smoothie shortcut, two portable scrambles, and a ready-made breakfast sandwich. Let’s take a look!

1. Path of Life Tuscan Quinoa Blend

Sure, this pre-cooked frozen quinoa blend is meant to be a side dish for dinnertime. But thanks to the protein and fiber quinoa offers, this is a great base for breakfast dishes, too. Simply heat this veggie and quinoa blend in the microwave and top it with a slightly runny fried egg for a quick breakfast bite. Pro tip: Drizzle some hot sauce on top of this dish if you like some heat!

2. Wyman’s Cherry Berry and Kale Frozen Fruit Mix

When a smoothie is calling your name, having a bag of Wyman’s Cherry, Berry, and Kale is a lifesaver … or should I say morning-saver! One of the shining stars of this blend is fresh frozen wild blueberries, which have two times the antioxidant activity when compared with ordinary blueberries. Simply toss some of the contents from the bag in a blender, add your preferred liquid, blend, and drink up!

Buy: Wyman’s Cherry Berry and Kale Frozen Fruit Mix, $10.58 for 3 pounds at Walmart

3. Feel Good Foods Mediterranean Tofu Scramble Pockets

Many of us (myself included!) are trying to limit our meat intake and leaning on plant-based options — including at breakfast! These scramble pockets are made with tofu instead of traditional breakfast meats, like sausage or bacon. And because the pockets are vegan-friendly and gluten-free, they check the box for a wide swath of diets.

4. Green Giant Veggie Hash Browns

While I love hash browns, I loathe peeling and frying the taters before I get to enjoy them. These hash browns are ready in as little as 12 minutes, when heated in a skillet. And amazingly enough, they contain zero potatoes and are instead filled with cauliflower. Because what can’t we make from cauliflower these days?

5. Kidfresh Homestyle Waffles

These waffles are marketed toward kids, but I say, “Embrace your child.” Also, these waffles defy any age restrictions. Adults, like kids, can have a habit of missing out on their daily vegetables. These waffles have butternut squash in the batter, which certainly won’t hurt when trying to meet your veggie quota for the day.

Buy: Kidfresh Homestyle Waffles, $4.49 for 10 ounces on Fresh Direct

6. Good Food Made Simple Tomatillo Salsa Verde Scramble

When running out the door, having a grab-and-go option that is perfectly portable is key. A scramble that is wrapped in a tortilla allows for easy eating in minutes. This one is made with egg whites and organic vegetables, including butternut squash, roasted corn, black beans, and chickpeas. Simply heat in the microwave and be on your way!

7. Veggies Made Great Carrot Berry Muffins

While I wish I could make a dozen freshly baked muffins in the morning, the reality is that I have too many to-dos to first start sifting and stirring in the a.m. These pre-made and frozen muffins are light on the sugar and contain carrots and dried blueberries and cranberries. They help me start my day with a low-maintenance nutrient boost.

Buy: Veggies Made Great Carrot Berry Muffins, $4.99 for four at Instacart

8. Real Good Foods Turkey Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches

The bun for this breakfast sandwich is made with cauliflower, coconut flour, and almond flour. Combined with turkey sausage, eggs, and cheddar, it has 24 grams of protein and only 3 net carbs per serving. Plus, it’s ready in less than two minutes in the microwave. I typically enjoy one of these sandwiches with a piece of fresh fruit to keep hunger pangs at bay.
